The way Rachel initially came on to Izzy wasn’t right. Even if Izzy did want it, she should’ve talked with her first. She was quite invasive. And definitely unprofessional for Rachel to get involved with client because she wanted to sleep with her. Unhealthy Dom/sub relationship. It brushed over consent. There weren’t any safe words used. Although, I was glad they kinda mentioned “you can be too drunk to consent”, and that Rachel did talk about consent in BDSM to Izzy, but it was brief, and it didn’t specify anything on consent(other than being too drunk)to the reader. I know the book itself is not meant for learning purposes, but I feel it’s still important. I didn’t like how Rachel was more often than not, particularly in start of it, “you’re going to do exactly as I say, or just leave”. She really jumped into it with her and assumed she had experience with BDSM, until specifically told by Izzy, herself, that she didn’t. She had others, even shop owners, policing/alerting Rachel of her every move with food. She punished Izzy for standing up for herself once(let me make myself plain: it’s still unhealthy, even if the sub ends up enjoying it). But I did like how it progressed into a better(in some ways)and more heartwarming relationship, not to mention the kinks were definitely turn on’s. No relationship is perfect, but people shouldn’t make assumptions about anyone, especially when it comes to potential subs/doms and kinky sex. Everything should be discussed over time, and made quite clear. Plus, immediately establishing boundaries. I know it’s fiction, but that doesn’t mean that it’s right to portray unhealthy relationships as romantic and good. People don’t realize that if others who haven’t been exposed to this type of sex/lifestyle, and/or what’s the difference between a healthy and unhealthy, and at worst, abusive relationship, people can get wrong idea, like with 50 shades(not that I think this book will become famous anytime soon). I’ve seen too many newbies/unaware people read this stuff, jump right into stuff like this without researching or finding workshops on how to properly do kink, and get seriously hurt. The storyline was otherwise entertaining and still quite a turn on for me.Product details

Beauty and the Bitch A BDSM Lesbian Romance edition by Shawna Hunter Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Received from the author in exchange for an honest review via the BDSM Group on Goodreads.
Something happened to me with this book which doesn’t happen that often – I was hooked from the first paragraph.
I picked this one up out of all the selections available partly as the title intrigued me as much as it put me off, and after clicking through to read the description and see the various ratings, I was intrigued enough to give it a try. And boy, am I glad that I did!
There are many different BDSM and erotic novels out there, some quite alike, others very different. I’ve read from mild to extreme, always finding something new as I go along. Therefore the BDSM shown in this book isn’t that new to me, but the storyline itself was. This is my first predominantly lesbian romance, but the main thing that was new to me, which isn’t my area of interest and expertise at all, was the training and body building. The latter is, actually, something which I’m quite turned off by, yet the way it was introduced and played into throughout the book made it anything but a turn off.
The primary storyline is Izzy, who needs to build up a bit of muscle and strength for working at the library, and how she falls for her personal trainer, a “girl meets girl” in a setting that I’m entirely unused to. It was beautifully written, with us as in the dark as Izzy until her blinkers are completely taken off and she discovers that her town isn’t what she thought it was. It is so casually done and acceptable that it could be any two people meeting and falling in love. There’s no one in the closet, well not deliberately so. It’s just open, normal, and gentle. From what I’ve heard, many gay and lesbian romances have one in the closet being convinced. This was just completely natural. And very hot!
I must say that the writing isn’t completely perfect, with it needing a dash of editing here and there. It’s a minor thing, as it isn’t all filled with mistakes, but some are noticeable. Even so, that isn’t enough to distract from the excellent storyline.
The author has quite won me over on this one! ;)
I throughly enjoyed this book! I went out of my comfort zone, and picked something I have never read before. The sex scenes were hot!
I think what I liked most about the story was Izzy. She was personable. The book also inspired me to add a DS quality to my own fitness training (I train at home) which has kept me more consistent.
This is my first read of Shawna Hunter's work. Being a fan of both the lesbian and BDSM genres, this was a very easy selection to make, and while itwas not as explicit in it's scenes as I had expected it to be I really loved reading the book and the romance between Izzy and Rachael. I look forward to reading more from Shawna
